HEALTH RESEARCH

Our health research focus area is mainly aimed at government, local and international NGOs, and large corporates. We conduct epidemiological research on outbreaks (and recurrence) of diseases, the prevalence and impact of diseases (and pandemics) on vulnerable groups and the wider population.
We have experience in supporting organizations that collect health-related data for purposes of guiding national and regional policy, especially intending to enable quick (and efficient) government’s response to diseases. Our interest in this area is however broader than enabling government’s response. It includes the provision of meaningful scientific data by which organizations can respond adequately (whether through the delivery of health services or civic education) to the devastating impact of pandemics such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Ebola, Covid-19, among others.
The Sub-Saharan Africa region bears the brunt of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in terms of the number of people affected. In South Africa, public health is concerned with addressing health problems created by the huge burden of infectious and non-communicable diseases; social-economic injustices and health inequalities; and developing interventions and policies to ensure the cost-efficient provision of quality health care services to all the people living in the country. In order to address these health challenges, the health system must provide thorough primary health care (PHC,) optimum health service utilisation, ensure adequate accessibility, allocate sufficient resources and modern technology and achieve improved health outcomes.
